Ariana Ptarcinski

On Christmas Eve 2021, 18-year-old Ariana Ptarcinski was celebrating the holiday with her family, full of excitement for the future. She had just started a new job, recently earned her driver’s license, and was enjoying time with loved ones. But in the early hours of Christmas morning, tragedy struck—Ariana was found with a fatal stab wound to her neck.
Her boyfriend, Ramon Calderon Durst, was the only other person in the room with her when it happened. Despite the fact that the Florida Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide, no charges were ever filed. In a case filled with unanswered questions, one thing is clear: Ariana deserved justice.
---
What Really Happened That Night?
That evening, Ariana had invited Ramon to celebrate with her family. He had recently moved to Florida from New Jersey and was staying with his grandmother while working as an electrician’s apprentice. He was supposed to sleep on the couch that night.
At some point, something went horribly wrong.
Ariana’s father, Eddie Ptarcinski, was in the garage when he heard screaming. He ran into the house and saw a scene no parent should ever witness—his daughter bleeding from her neck, unable to speak, and Ramon holding onto her.
"All of a sudden, I hear ‘Eddie, Eddie!’ Screaming. And he’s got my daughter by the neck, and she just has blood coming out of her mouth and couldn’t speak. I mean, there’s blood everywhere," Eddie recalled.
He immediately called 911, his panicked voice captured on the emergency recording:
“Oh my God! My daughter’s bleeding! Her neck is cut!”
In the background of the call, another voice—identified as Ramon—was heard yelling:
“I fed up! She was upset, and she fing got a knife, dude!”
But was that the truth?
---
A Broken Investigation
From the start, the investigation into Ariana’s death was riddled with problems.
Ramon was never formally questioned by police.
He was never read his Miranda rights.
He refused to give a statement and lawyered up.
The police never reconstructed the crime scene.
The medical examiner ruled Ariana’s death a homicide, yet no charges were filed.
Despite overwhelming questions, authorities seemed more focused on silencing the family than finding the truth.
Ariana’s 12-year-old sister was interrogated without her parents present. Her father was treated like a suspect and forced to undergo forensic processing. Her mother was detained in a patrol car for hours, denied even a restroom break, and forced to relieve herself in the backseat.
While her family was humiliated and traumatized, Ramon walked free that same night.
---
Why Wasn't Ramon Arrested?
Months later, the State Attorney’s Office refused to press charges, stating:
"Although the medical examiner’s office listed Ariana’s death as a homicide, Florida courts have historically held that acts of negligence cannot be made criminal regardless of the loss of human life without Mens Rea."
In other words, they claimed there was no proof of intent—so no crime was charged.
But legal experts argue otherwise.
Dr. David Thomas, a criminology professor and former police officer, reviewed the case and stated:
“We have charges for manslaughter that actually deal with that.”
Even if they didn’t believe the crime was premeditated murder, there were multiple charges that could have been pursued. Yet, no action was taken.
Instead, investigators focused on social media—collecting over 173 pages of Facebook posts, emails, and news articles about Ariana’s case, rather than interviewing witnesses or re-examining the crime scene.
Why?

Ariana Deserves Justice
Ariana Ptarcinski was an artist, a daughter, a sister, and a young woman with her entire life ahead of her. She was not suicidal. She did not take her own life. Her death was ruled a homicide—yet the one person who was with her in her final moments was never held accountable.
Her family continues to fight for justice, refusing to let Ariana’s story be forgotten.
So we ask you:
Why wasn’t Ramon questioned?
Why did investigators treat Ariana’s family like suspects while letting the prime witness go free?
Why did the State Attorney refuse to press charges despite a homicide ruling?
Ariana’s voice was silenced that night, but we won’t let her story fade away.
If you believe in justice, share her story. Keep asking questions. Keep pushing for answers. Ariana’s life mattered, and she deserves justice.
